RESULTS ARE IN, THEY ARE IDENTICAL!

It's official, the DNA test is back and Seth and Noah are identical twins. We all suspected that they were and the Grandmother's are both saying "we knew that already", but it's still nice to know for sure. Now we can finally tell people for sure when we are out and get asked the question "Are they identical?". Which happens alot by the way. It's just natural curiosity I guess. Neither of us say yes or no, but the same dumb answer of "We think so, but we aren't sure".

Here are some fun facts about identical twins:

* Identical twins just happen. It is not genetic. It happens about 1 in every 250 births(0.4%).

* Of all the types of twins, there are 5 types of twinning that commonly occur. The three most common are all fraternal:

----1. male/female fraternal twins (makes up 40% of all twin births - MOST COMMON TYPE)
----2. female/female fraternal twins
----3. male/male fraternal twins
----4. female identical twins
----5. male identical twins (LEAST COMMON TYPE)

* Identical twins do not have the same fingerprints.

* Less than 10% of the population is left handed, but about 20% of all identical twin pairs have one left handed twin and one right handed twin

* About 2/3 of all births are done naturally, with 1/3 being cesarean. With twins, those statistics reverse.

* We do not know the likelihood of having identical twin boys on your 2nd wedding anniversary, but it must be astronomical.

* Although they share the same DNA, they do not have identical DNA. It's complicated. (see the 1st link)

* Gemini is the Zodiac sign for twin. Our boys are Scorpio.

* Cryptophasia is when twins have their own "twin language" that only they understand. Many twins appear to have this so-called language when they are babies.

* Studies have shown that identical twins tend to live longer than fraternal twins, researchers believe this is due to their close communication.

* Identical twins exhibit almost identical brain wave patterns.

* I did some math, of 10000 births, you would see about 40 identical twins sets, that's 0.4%. Of those 40 identical twin sets, female/female is more common than male/male, so let's just say that 21 are female/female, and 19 are male/male. So the chances that we were having identical twin boys was around .0019%. Of those only 1/3 are born naturally, so let's say 6 sets would be born naturally, that's about .0006% of all births. So the odds of Shelby getting pregnant with identical twin boys and carrying them to natural child birth is about .0006%. Now calculate how many of those are born on 2nd Wedding Anniversaries and now you might as well buy a lottery ticket!

* There is a restaurant in New York City called "Twins." It was started by twin sisters and is staffed by 37 sets of identical twins who work the same shifts. Each evening they get 10 or more sets of twins or multiples who patron their unique restaurant.
