Shawano 2012

Before we get to Shawano pictures...

The boys had their last baseball game of the season the morning we left for Shawano.  They played a great game with all of their new friends.  At the end of the game, they were presented with certificates and medals.  They were so excited!  The coach then took the team to McDonald's for ice cream!  They played baseball, had a cupcake and ice cream all before lunch.  It was a great start to vacation for them.

The coaches for the boys' team were fantastic.  So kind and patient with all of the kids.  We couldn't have asked for a better first experience with baseball.  They loved it so much, we signed them up for fall baseball!

Last week we were in Shawano, WI for the annual Jenkins family vacation on the lake.  We all enjoyed our time with Grandma, Grandpa, Mike, Liza and that sweet little Savannah.  We filled our days with boat rides, day trips, quiet time watching movies, playing in the sand and roasting hot dogs.  After the kids went to bed, the 'adults' played many games of Farkle, Five Crowns and Rook.  A good time was had by all.

We stayed in the same cottage for the 2nd year in a row.  It has a great location on the lake and the boys loved playing in the backyard in the sand and running on the dock (Seth STILL has a splinter in his foot from that dock!).

Brody loves the water and the boys loved throwing the tennis ball into the lake for him to retrieve.

Brody was a mess all week, but oh so happy.

Savannah brought her little pool and on one particularly hot afternoon, they all played in it to cool off.

Savannah called Seth & Noah 'her boys' all week.  She'd ask 'Where my boys?'.  It was adorable.  I hope she always refers to them as her boys.

We were able to see both of Chris' grandmothers while we were there and completely neglected to take any pictures of the kids with them.  Major fail.  We had breakfast with Grandma Jenkins on Sunday morning and then went and had lunch with Grandma Behling on Monday.

After lunch with Grandma Behling, we went to Green Bay and went on the stadium tour at Lambeau.

We got the boys Packer footballs at the pro shop.  Here they are showing us their best football moves.  Seth is on the left, Noah on the right.

Seth clearly has some work to do.

This is a view that we will never see during a Packers football game.  It was a beautiful suite.

Chris took a picture of the locker room that they wouldn't let us in.

Getting ready to go through the tunnel to the field.

Lambeau is currently under renovations to add new scoreboards and seating.

This cute guy is Noah.  Seth didn't want to participate in anymore picture taking.

The boys roasted hot dogs and had smores for the first time while we were there.  This is a HUGE accomplishment for them.  Up until this point, they have been petrified of fire.  Any kind of fire...birthday candles, hibachi grills, you name it.  One afternoon we came back from a ride on the boat and Grandma had a fire ready to go for roasting hot dogs.  Seth walked by it and said 'I like your fire, Grandma'.  That's something I never thought I'd hear.

All of the kids were excited about Grandpa's boat this year.  Savannah, Seth and Noah all yelled 'FASTER' as soon as they got in the boat.  No one ever drove fast enough for them.  Savannah was so cute.  She loved standing up so that the wind would blow through her hair.

We also made a trip to the miniature golf course.  Looks like this is also becoming an annual tradition.

Shawano has the most bizarre little 'zoo'.  Behind a restaurant, there is a private home that has some exotic (and some not so exotic) animals.  They have a camel, zebra, wallaby, skunk, donkey, chickens, etc.  Our favorite was the lemur.  That little guy just roamed anywhere he wanted to.  I was nervous at first because I didn't know if he was friendly.  After a few minutes, a woman stuck her head out of the sliding glass door of the house and said that the lemur is friendly and likes his back scratched.  She also warned us that he may jump on our shoulder...which he did to me.  Too bad we didn't get a picture.  There was a bag of lettuce out and she said that we could feed the camel.  How could we pass that up?

Noah

Chris got a little smooch from his new lemur friend.

Right as we decided to leave, the lemur decided to hang out on our car.

We had so much fun there, we went back the next day with Savannah, Mike & Liza.

Our last full day in Shawano, the kids played outside with Grandma, Grandma and several bottles of bubbles.

Savannah was pretending to take a nap in the sand.

She'd pop up and say 'I wake up!'.

We took the car ferry back home again this year.  As the boys get older, the trip gets more fun.

The boys entered the coloring contest both crossings last year and our trip home this year.  They have won the coloring contest all 3 times.  I'm beginning to think that no one else enters the contest, which is fine by the boys.  This year they won beach balls and pencils.  It was impossible to get a picture of the two of them together with their prizes and their pictures.  In the picture below, you can see my hand on Seth trying unsuccessfully to get them to stand still.

Back in Ludington...

Next year's vacation is already on the books!  It's going to be a fun one...
