2015!

Happy New Year!  A little late...

The four of us rang in 2015 at home, comfy and low key.

This one (Noah) had no trouble staying up until midnight.  He even caught a second wind around 11:50, which was fun for no one except for him.

This one (Seth) fell asleep on the couch at 11:30.  I tried to wake him up to watch the ball drop, but he wasn't budging!

We tried to get him to celebrate with us...

I didn't want to exclude him from all of the pictures at midnight!

Those are all the pictures I took of our New Year's Eve and I'm O.K. with it!  Maybe next year Seth will stay up and I can get some awake pictures of him.  Actually, I'm shocked that I actually stayed awake until midnight.  That's WAY past my bedtime.

Saturday the boys had their very first basketball game.  They are participating in Upward basketball this year.  Due to the holidays and bad weather, they played their first game after only 3 practices.  Overall, they did really well.  Only a few fouls here and there.

How they introduce the players is awesome!  They say their name over the loud speaker and the kids run through a tunnel into the spotlight, all while a video is played of them on large screens.  I will get a video of it and some pictures at another game.  Each game consists of 6 six minute periods.  There are 10 kids on the team, so 5 boys played the first period, the remaining boys played the second and they continued that rotation.  We were the only parents there who had a kid playing the whole game since they continued to switch off.

Both boys made baskets, ran hard and really hustled.  They loved it, but I've noticed that they basically love every sport they are playing.

Upward basketball is a Christian centered program.  As part of practices and games, children take time to pray, reflect and focus on bible verses.  At half-time of their game, one of the pastors at the church we were at asked the children who remembered the bible verse they were working on.  Seth was one of the first to raise his hand and was called to the court.  He recited the bible verse from memory in front of 40 or so players and 150 others there to watch the game.  He did great!  They gave him a giant pack of Kit Kats as a reward.  We were pretty proud of him.

Seth is number 13, he's on the far right of the picture.

This is a little blurry, but Noah was cracking us up sitting on the bench.  He just sat with his arms and legs crossed.

Seth making on of his baskets!

Noah is number 3.

Now that we are familiar with the flow and the layout of the games, we'll take the big camera and get some better pictures.

One more quick picture...

The boys have been making origami animals at their before and after school care.  Noah took it a step further and came home and drew a play mat for his animals.  He very carefully taped together several pieces of paper and drew trees, a pond and a stream.  He then created a very detailed story about how his fox, rabbit and frog interacted.  It was cute and very creative.  Of course, though, as a seven year old boy the story consisted a lot of one animal kicking the other animal in the butt.
