Mackinaw! Or Mackinac....

So...  Let's just get this one out of the way before we get to our little adventure in Mackinaw...

We made ANOTHER trip to the emergency room!  This time the victim was Noah.  The boys were brushing their teeth and goofing off like they aren't supposed to when Seth kicked a stuffed animal.  This particular stuffed animal is pretty heavy and unfortunately for Noah, it hit the end of his toothbrush (that was in his mouth) and the toothbrush basically punched a whole in the back of his mouth/throat.  It was a big hole, so off we went to the emergency room.  Each doctor that looked at him would start off by telling me that mouth lacerations heal quickly and they typically don't do anything about it...and then they looked in his mouth.  The very confident resident actually gasped and said that she was going to get her boss.  Her 'boss' came in and was befuddled.  He sent a picture to an ENT so they could look at it and decide what to do - I have the picture, but will spare you.  We were there for several hours while doctors consulted about whether or not they should stitch him up.  At one point the doctor told me that Noah was the 'interesting' case in the ER that night and that isn't a good thing.  After about 3 hours the doctor came back and said that they made the decision to leave it alone and monitor it.  Noah was relieved, so was I!.  They wanted to make sure he could drink OK, so they gave him a grape slushie (at 11:30 at night thankyouverymuch).  He loved that, of course, and decided going to the emergency room was totally worth it.

The next day the hole was completely closed up.  It was amazing.  We were joking with him that he heals like Wolverine.  When I took him for a follow up a couple of days later, I told the doctor that and the doctor came back with 'No, he heals like a Spartan'.  Honestly, I didn't get it until about 2 hours later.  Silly Michiganders.

The boys had a friend at the house for a sleepover when 'the incident' occurred.  Noah was really bummed that he had to leave his friend, so Chris promised him a trip to Craig's Cruisers to make up for it and to give him a special treat because he was so incredibly brave at the hospital.  I'm still not sure how I ended up taking him to the ER, but Chris got to take him to ride go-carts....   Thankfully their very sweet friend, Nolan, wasn't traumatized and actually said he had fun at our house!

On to Mackinaw!  A little over a week ago, we took the boys to Mackinaw City for the weekend and spent the day on Mackinac Island the Saturday we were there.

We took the early ferry over to the island because it went under the bridge!  There weren't many people on the ferry and it was a beautiful morning.  Perfect for a boat ride under the bridge.

Chris and Noah were soooo much better at the selfie!

This was our first trip to the island.  I know Michigan friends, it's a travesty!  We wanted to wait until the boys were old enough to ride their bikes.  For those friends who don't know, there are no motorized vehicles on Mackinac Island.  Everyone gets around on foot, bike or by horse drawn carriage.

When we first got the island, there weren't many people out and about, so we decided to start our trek around the island.  It was incredibly beautiful.

Noah in front, smiling nicely.  Seth in the back being a goofball.

The stairs going down from Arch Rock were much more fun than going up.

People can get to the island by ferry or small plane.  We biked by the airport and 3 planes flew overhead to land while we were on this short stretch of road.

We also spent some time exploring Fort Mackinac.

Some of the views from Fort Mackinac.

We watched them fire the cannon from the front row.  Not very smart.  It's very difficult to take a picture of them firing the cannon while plugging your ears.

After a long bike ride and checking out Fort Mackinac, we made our way back to the main strip of restaurants and shops.  The street looked VERY different than when we arrived on the island in the morning.  The streets were filled.  We had trouble finding a place to park out bikes.

We had some lunch (and got the only picture of the 4 of us from the whole weekend), did a little shopping, bought some fudge and rode our bikes some more before heading back to Mackinaw City.

We told the boys not to get their shoes wet, so they stood at the edge of the water to see how close the water could get to their shoes without actually getting them wet.  Typical.  They both failed.

In Mackinaw City, our room was on the first floor with the lake right outside a sliding door.  The boys spent quite a bit of time on the beach.  It really was perfect.  After a long day on the island, they played in the water, we ordered pizza to our room and relaxed.  We aren't going on a big family vacation this year, but I think we all enjoyed our weekend together.  Next time I want to stay on the island!

We got back from Mackinaw and started a little project.  This was my kitchen 2 days ago.  Nobody is cooking at my house.

The refrigerator is in the living room.  Along with a lot of other miscellaneous stuff.

I'll post before and after pictures when it's all finished!
