End of Summer

Well, the kids are back in school and summer break is officially over.  We made the best of the last few weeks, though...

A few weeks ago, there was a family fun day in our little town.  We spent some time there, saw some animals and played some games.

The boys ran another 5K!  Mitchell's Run Through Rockford.  What a great race.  Seth (left) came in 3rd in the 10 and under age division.  Noah (right) came in 7th.  They did great!  They had 2 hours of football practice the night before and still did a great job.  They also went to football practice right after the race.  Made me tired to even think about it.

I love that they like to run and they are so determined to do their best each race.

We also took a quick, last of the summer trip to the Bristol Renaissance Faire and to Six Flags.

That night at dinner we went out for burgers and fried cheese curds the size of golf balls (no lie...yum).  Noah worked on the activities in the kid menu and when he was finished, I took a look.  There is a lot going on.  I don't know if I should be upset that he spelled bird and raccoon wrong or impressed that he spelled sasquatch correctly (even though those are clearly not sasquatch tracks).  We won't even talk about 'beer'.

The next day we went to Six Flags.  Chris and I have been thinking about this since they were born.  Chris and I both love to ride roller coasters and we have always wanted to take the boys to ride big coasters and hoped that they wouldn't be afraid so we could do it as a family.  We've taken them to Michigan's Adventure the past couple of years and they did smaller coasters OK (after some pushing).  They were finally tall enough to ride every ride at Six Flags so this was our year.  We didn't start slow.  The first one that we went on was the new Joker coaster and it was no joke.  Both of the boys did great!  We told them that if they could handle that one, they could handle anything and they did.  I rode the 2nd coaster with Seth and halfway through he yelled 'This is so fun!'.  The day could not have gone better.  We rode a ton of rides and we were there the day of the solar eclipse.

Noah and I are on there somewhere.  This is my favorite ride at Six Flags - X-Flight.

The weekend before school starts, we tend to do weird things.  Last year we made a watermelon explode by putting rubber bands around it.  This year we put Mentos in Diet Coke and had giant water balloons!

Crazy kids used the popped balloons as hats.

The balloons were really hard to pop!  Even with a pile of neighborhood kids on top of it.

We even squeezed in one quick bowling trip and then it was time for school.

Other randomness...

Lots of fishing going on around here.

Noah

Seth caught this one today!  It was 18 inches and he's still talking about it, seriously, he's in the other room talking about it right now.  If you're reading this later or even tomorrow, I bet he's talking about it.

Chris taught the boys how to play solitaire.  Don't know why I love this so much.

The boys have been going to a lot of football practices and scrimmages.  They're also studying their plays while at home.

This year, Seth and Noah are doing fantasy football for the first time and boy, are they into it!  This is them during the live draft.  Every day they are looking at the rosters and trying to make trades.  Ridiculous trades, but still...
